FUN'S OVER, TIME TO GET SERIOUS...
Friday after the game I turned to my wife, laughed, and asked, “What in the world do I write about this week?” Looking back, you cannot really point out superstars or fantastic playmakers. Don’t get me wrong, there were some pretty plays and great athletic feats, but I’m still at a loss for words to point them out. Every Tiger on the field looked like five-star recruits with scouts licking their chops to sign a deal. Surprisingly, according to LoneStarFootball, Venus beat us one time back in 2003. The scoring has been lopsidedly wild as the Tigers have outscored the Bulldogs 943-145.
A lot of talk was going on about Venus and their inability to put together a team that wins. I don’t know if it’s coaching or the culture of losing, but I don’t think it’s the athletes. They have size and ability, but something else is holding that potential from allowing these kids to thrive. Player after player went down Friday in pain or injury. The young man that was taken away by ambulance, fortunately, is doing well with no significant injuries. I’m sure plenty of prayers went up Friday to heal his body. I hope that one day, that small town can figure it out and teach teamwork to those boys. It just isn’t fair on them.
The Tigers looked great on Friday, with a lot of guys getting their chance for some varsity experience. Canyon Evans had more passing plays on the sideline as him and Luke Males tossed the ball back and forth to stay warm. I think the volleyball team could have stepped in to score a few if they wanted to. Speaking of Volleyball, those Lady Tigers traveled to Brock and laid down the cedar on the Lady Eagles at their house! These girls never gave up and kept fighting to keep their chances alive for district champions. If Stephenville beats Brock, we are outright district champs. If Brock beats Stephenville, the girls will play Brock again to determine who reigns in 2024. Let’s get after it girls! The Lady Tigers have not won first in the district since 2018. It is high time for our girls to take what’s theirs.
Next week, the Benbrook Bobcats are looking to take away the district crown we have possessed for almost a decade. I cannot emphasize enough how much these guys need to come to play their best. For our community, we NEED to come out to support these athletes. We will be playing at Handley Stadium. It looks like we may have a wet field and some chilled weather, but nevertheless, Benbrook is coming for blood. Let’s band together and travel to Fort Worth to support our Tigers! Benbrook is undefeated this year and looks to stay that way after Friday. Let’s show them what a real team looks like. Lets go get ‘em boys!
On a political side note, there have been some questions about the Voter Approved Tax Rate Election. The booster club will support the school district in any way it can as long as it supports the children, teachers, and future of GRISD. In a post made last week, we simply stated the facts about the proposal. We do not implore you to vote yes or no, just to do your due diligence to learn about the VATRE. Upon researching the IRS code, a 501(c)(3) may not support a political candidate or coerce voters to vote for/against a candidate. Since no candidate is involved here, this would not pertain to the proposed measure. However, just to be on the safe side, we are not advocating for a YES or NO vote, just go vote. More than anything, I encourage you to talk to the administrators for questions. To be honest, we are just small-town people who love this district. We are not evil conspiratorial deep state advocates looking to overthrow the taxpayers and Glen Rose elite. Our hearts are and will always be in the right place to do the right thing. We are volunteers and spend too much of our own money to be bashed on. The trailer pulled to the stadium does not magically arrive there with fairy dust. I provide fuel (just 10 away games is $500-$800/yr. in fuel). Most everything you associate with the booster club can equate to time and money that we, and others, give generously for the kids AND fans of Glen Rose. Our actions are not nefarious; just simply passionate about helping. Trust me, I would save money, time, my health, and my overall lifespan if I knew this wasn’t for a good cause. If you have a sincere concern about how we perform, let us know. We ONLY want what is best for these kids and the district. The last thing we want to do is walk away.
