"IT'S NOT REVENGE HE'S AFTER. IT'S A RECKONING"
As we were driving out by Brazos Point on our way to watch Junior Varsity whoop up on Hillsboro, lo and behold, an Eagle was perched out by the big pond before the bridge. This is the first I have seen an eagle here and what a coincidence this sighting occurred during the week that the Glen Rose Tigers swept the Hillsboro Eagles in all sub varsity and varsity football. According to LoneStarFootball, the showdown between Hillsboro and Glen Rose started in 1986 with several gaps in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. Overall, the record between the two teams stands at 22-4. However, there are inconsistencies between this record and MaxPreps records.
With the 56-6 win over Hillsboro, the Tigers are gaining momentum in district which will be much needed as the wildcard Benbrook is quickly approaching. This week, Venus will not be much of a problem as the Bulldogs have only scored fourteen points this season. Benbrook is ready to claim the top spot of our reign on 4A-2 Region I District 4 and the only thing standing in their way is thirty-four young men ready to reclaim that number nine straight undefeated district title. Its yours for the taking boys.
Friday night was an exciting return to united Glen Rose football. Defensively, the boys were like a group of heathen animals looking for blood, as every play had a swarm of ball-seeking vampires making easy victims of whoever touched the pigskin. I feel like a broken record with that beast-of-man in Keltyn Raymond. Like an overgrown man-child, he made quick action all night making any Eagle ball carrier his red headed stepchildren. Let’s not leave out Cristian Ballesteros, who makes sure Raymond’s steep disciplinary rules are backed by his punishing relentlessness of brutal hits. The two, along with Douglas and Muro, make quick action of making sure very little comes up the middle. Ryder Ribitzki has been a force this year at linebacker, making sure his presence is known to opponents by giving out hits like Oprah Winfrey used to give out cars to her sheep-like audience. Buckle up buttercup if you want Ryder to light you up. The secondary looked much better this week, playing the screen like they knew the play before it was called. With perfectly timed hits and reads, Kaiden Shannon and Gabe Diaz are well on their way to securing the pass we have been in dire need of. All of the defense looked great, holding the Eagles to only 114 yards with only 34 of them in the air. Fantastic job defense! Keep working and keep getting better!
The Tigers offense is like the Tombstone cast, with Doc Holliday being played not by Val Kilmer, but your one and only Canyon Evans. Just imagine with me, a perfect Friday night, with his foot propped up behind his squad of protectors and toothpick in his mouth quietly declaring, “I’m your Huckleberry.” With sharpshooting skills and the courage to take six in on foot, Evans led with ease as the combined force of his lethal posse put fifty-six on the board without difficulty. I sure am liking the deck of cards being shuffled around as Brodey Bowman showed he could make easy work of running the ball also. Like Doc Holliday said, “You’re a Daisy if you do.” Well, Bowman sure did as he pounded for yardage and even caught a doozy of a pass in the end zone for six. What a combo of gunslinging talent between Males, Raymond, Brewton, Groeneweg, and Bowman to be able to use those legs to make plays. Let’s not forget the ballhandling skills of Adrian Sanchez and Colton Andress, who made girl scouts out of defenders Friday with some outstanding catches to add to the bloodbath. I do not recall whether any of the Tombstone posse ever had time like Evans did to make things happen, all thanks to that O-line who protected Evans like he was a baby man-child chosen to lead the world. Clark Anderson, with his big pink club-of-a-hand made it look easy as him and the elite five made easy work to give Evans time to both ponder his life decisions and balance his checkbook while staying safe and secure in the pocket. Great work offense. Let’s keep it rolling and continue climbing. We have a long road ahead of us.
A very special thanks to all those who bought Pink-Out apparel and merchandise from the booster club. These proceeds will benefit the Somervell County Cancer Support Group. The donations after 1st Quarter raised over $700! You should be proud Glen Rose! Thank you to Rejuv Medical, who purchased one hundred pink throw-out shirts which also helped the Cancer Group! It was a great turnout for Glen Rose! I am expecting much less for the Venus game, considering its likely to be quick work for the Tiger victory. Come anyway and let’s support our boys in red. Go get ‘em Tigers!
