Wednesday marked the second time FCA hosted Fields of Faith at Tiger Stadium which proved to be an absolute win for God as over 600 students showed up to worship and fellowship. The back lot of Tiger Stadium was blocked off to allow a plethora of games, activities, and food for students to intermingle after a day of schoolwork. As the gates opened, volunteers, parents, and local FCA sponsors cheered as students made their way into the visitor side bleachers. We heard from Cason Staples, Jessica Van Buren and others as testimonies were shared and prayers were lifted up for our community. Student ministries were followed by key speaker and former NFL player Cody Davis. Davis, whose career started at the St. Louis Rams and later subsequentially ended with the New England Patriots, is a Stephenville native whose calling to Christ came while he was attending school in neighboring Erath County. Cody’s sideline talk emphasized ignoring the hype of social media and finding your identity in Christ. It was refreshing for students from Glen Rose and Godley to hear another perspective of holiness coming from someone that was surrounded by the hype and glory of the NFL. Many were witness to the subtle awakening of our youth as worship closed out the evening and a call for salvation ensued. It was a blessing to witness outstretched hands and singing as our youth lifted their voices in praise amid a chilled, calm stadium. The Glen Rose Fellowship of Christian Athletes has been a longstanding organization aimed at creating leaders for Christ on and off the field. I personally was an officer in the late 90’s for three years and find it a great way for athletes to fellowship and set the example of true students of God. Magnificent work students, for standing firm in your faith. I encourage you to plant your feet on the truth and proudly exclaim where you stand to those around you. No shame, no embarrassment, just the courage to be who God made you to be. Be the light!
