Sitting back looking at the crowd during the Glen Rose vs Grandview game, I was dumbfounded by the amount of support game one brought on a miserably hot evening. Don’t forget the little critters in the endzone battling out their own game of rag tag backyard football. You just can’t beat the sense of community pride that was portrayed that night, all coming together again for Friday Night Football. I’m not much of a college or NFL football guy. I used to be back when the Cowboys actually won. I just can’t muster up enough “want to” for football outside of high school. I recently talked to a good friend who is from Grandview. He feels the same as I do when it comes to our size of school. Small schools tend to have the spirit, but not the support. Large schools have both, but you can walk through the stands and not know a soul. When 10,000 people show up, how many do you know? That’s why 3A and 4A football is the greatest it will ever be. It’s just big enough to have tons of support and spirit, and small enough that everyone knows everyone. We are a family (maybe dysfunctional) but yet we all have something in common. That’s the love for community and love for family. What a great place to call home! *On a side note, my Grandview friend will be wearing a Glen Rose Tigers hat as payment for his lost bet against me! If Glen Rose fans can come out at 100-degree heat, pack the house, and watch the Tigers filet up some Zebra steaks for dinner, then I don’t see any reason we can’t muster up the same support at Gatesville, Brownwood, Godley, Venus, and Benbrook. I have a dream of packing the stands for every away game we have this year. I got news for you; you don’t want to miss this season. Don’t be that person who says, “I wish I would have witnessed that”! So, carpool, Uber, or drive yourself and make the Friday evening trek to support these guys. They need you and want you. Let’s not let our opponents snicker or talk about how few showed up to watch football. Let them all envy us with jealousy for how well Glen Rose backs their boys in red!
