ONE DAY, IT WILL ALL BE GONE...
There will be a kid this year lacing up their cleats, pulling on a jersey, and running out under the lights.
And in the stands? A sea of red. The band’s tempo shaking the bleachers.
The cheerleaders’ chants echoing through the night. The crowd erupting as the horn blasts and the Tigers charge out of the tunnel.
But one day, it will all go quiet.
No more snack bags.
No more team dinners.
No more Friday night jitters as you drive across the state, anxious and excited, knowing you’ll relive every play in your mind the whole way home.
One day, the stadium will be empty for us. The tunnel dark. The horn silent.
And these parents with us will sit in the stillness, wishing for just five more minutes.
Five more minutes of hearing the crowd roar.
Five more minutes of seeing their child run out onto that field.
Five more minutes of watching them live their dream.
While the next generation of parents will take the reins and leave us all behind.
A Simple Plea...
Parents, don’t let the countdown slip away while you’re busy critiquing. Don’t let this short season of their life be remembered as pressure and perfection, instead of pride and joy.
Your kids don’t need more breakdowns of what went wrong. They don’t need you to coach from the stands. They don’t need you to measure their worth by their performance.
They need to know you love watching them play. They need to see your pride shine louder than the stadium lights. They need to feel your joy while they still have these moments to give you.
Because one day, you’ll trade in game film and stat sheets for memories. Memories of touchdowns, tackles, laughter, high fives, and that unstoppable feeling of watching them become who they are.
And you’ll wish for five more minutes.
